This beautiful
island is a 42,000 sq km. paradise with endless
white sand beaches and lush landscaping, attracting
more than 5 million tourists each year. First
inhabited by the Taino Indians, it was the first
land Christopher Columbus set foot on when he
discovered America, calling it "The most beautiful
land any eyes had ever seen"( Columbus Diary,
October 12th 1492). Nowadays the main tourist
destination for all-inclusive tourism from Europe
and North America, the island has seen a lot of
change in the past 20 years, with very high
